1can (21 ounces)cherry pie filling (or 4 cups of homemade cherry pie filling)
2tbspCarob fruit syrup or agave syrup
1/2cupbrown sugar
1/2cup (1 stick)unsalted butter,melted
1tspvanilla extract(optional)

Instructions
Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
Grease a 9x13-inch baking dish.
Evenly spread the cherry pie filling over the bottom of the prepared baking dish. If you're using fresh cherries, toss them with a little sugar before adding them to the dish.
Sprinkle the dry cake mix evenly over the cherry filling. Do not mix; allow the cake mix to rest on top.
Drizzle the melted butter and caramelized sugar evenly over the cake mix, making sure it covers most of the mix for even baking.
Bake in the preheated oven for 45-55 minutes, or until the cake is golden brown and bubbling. The edges should be slightly crisp, which is ideal!
