Equipment

  • medium loaf pan

Ingredients

  • 2 cups self-rising flour
  • 1 tbsp dry yeast
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 8 tbsp butter
  • 3 cloves garlic
  • 6 tbsp fresh or dry parsley
  • 1/2 tbsp salt

Instructions

  • In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, yeast, and salt.
  • Add the buttermilk and 1 tablespoon of butter. Stir with a spatula until a dough forms, then shape it into a small ball. Cover and let it rest in a warm place for about 1 hour.
  • Once the dough has doubled in size, transfer it to a floured surface. Using a rolling pin, roll it out into a 16x10-inch rectangle.
  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • In a separate bowl, mix the remaining butter with freshly chopped garlic and parsley. Spread this mixture evenly over the dough using a fork or knife. Then, roll the dough into a log.
  • Slice the dough log in half lengthwise and braid the two pieces together. Coil one end like a snake and twist the other end in the opposite direction. Place the shaped dough into a medium loaf pan.
  • Bake for 35 minutes, or until golden brown.
